My first article to appear in print was published in Practical Photography magazine, then the largest circulation monthly in Europe, when I was 19 years old. I have been writing about photography, therefore, for more than forty years. These articles, essays and books have included historical research on 19th and early 20th century photographers and topics, biographies, criticism, reviews, opinion pieces and more humorous essays. Even though several hundred of these articles have been published in in a wide range of photographic journals, other periodicals and anthologies, the majority were published just once, often in obscure or out-of-print magazines, and often in Britain or Europe. The manuscripts now gather dust in a line of fat ring-binders in my office/home.

This web site provides an opportunity to "archive" many of them while, hopefully, making them available to a wider, new audience. Here is a preliminary selection. Further articles will be added at frequent intervals.
